Through out all of time, man has sought for a way to beat death. They have longed for eternal life. Explorers have searched for the "fountains of youth". Doctors have tried to develop drugs and treatments to "prevent aging" and prolong life. Although doctors have been somewhat successful with these treatments and drugs, one soon realizes that everyone has an appointment with death. They find the Bible very true when it say in Psalms 90:10 that the average life span is 70 to 80 years. After these 70 to 80 years, what happens to us? The Bible is very clear that " It is appointed unto men once to die and after this the judgment"; however, the Bible also clearly speaks of eternal life. So how does one get this eternal life and find what everyone has been searching for since the beginning of time? In order to have eternal life, there are some things that we must agree with God on. We must agree that:
Romans 3:23 " For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." The Bible declares that all men have sinned. Our sins cause us to be separated from God and causes a gulf to be placed between us and God.
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Death came into the world as a result of sin. Death became our wage (payment) for our sins; however, because we are sinners, any payment we make for our sins still falls "short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Commendeth means to demonstrate or prove. Since Christ never sinned, He alone could pay for our sins. Hebrews 4:15b says "but was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin." Therefore, while we were still sinners, Christ paid for our sins by his death upon the cross!
II Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." The Bible is crystal clear that God does not desire anyone to have to pay for their sins and go to hell. He desires "that all should come to repentance". To get eternal life, you must repent. By repent, we mean that one must turn from their own views and ways of obtaining heaven to God and His way to the heaven. He has declare the way that we all should come which is through Jesus Christ. In John 14:6, Jesus says: "I am the way, the truth, and the life NO MAN cometh unto the Father, but by me." Jesus made it very clear that if anyone would come to God; they must go through Him. Romans 10:13 declares, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Therefore, anyone who goes to God through what Jesus Christ did on the cross can have eternal life. If you would like to receive eternal life, your must agree with God that you are a sinner, that you cannot pay for your sins, that Christ paid for your sins, and then simple turn to Him and place your faith and trust in Him as your only way to heaven. Would you like to receive Christ as your Saviour? If so, you may pray a prayer in your own words to accept His free gift of eternal life! If you need help with how to pray, just simplely pray a similar prayer to this: "Dear God, I realize that I am a sinner and deserve to pay for my sins in hell for eternity; however, I accept what Christ did for me on the cross as my payment for sin. I turn to you as my only way to heaven. Please forgive me of my sins and come into my heart and save me. Thank you for your free gift of eternal life."
If you just prayed to receive Christ as your Saviour, then you can rest assured that you have eternal life. In Hebrews 9: 12, the Bible states, "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood, he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us." By Christ's payment, He has made eternal life available for all who accept His free gift. If you turn to Him as your only way to heaven, then He promised in John 6:37 that "all that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out". If you just came to Christ, then you have His promise that He would accept you, forgive your sins, and give you eternal life and a home in heaven.
